Flowers at Dusk

Lately flowers seem to be popping up everywhere, including in my clothing and jewellery choices, as you can see from this floral top and crochet necklace combination. I quite like wearing more girly pieces like this sometimes, as long as I can make them a little more edgy, and not feel like I've had a personality transplant. It was blazing hot today, and although I love the summer, it's a little discouraging when you leave the house looking nice, only to arrive at work looking like a red-faced, panting lunatic. I wish I was one of those people who can look composed in all weathers, but unhappily, neither extreme seems to suit me. Luckily I captured these images on a recent weekend when the sun was about to set, and temperatures were a little cooler. I hope you're all enjoying the season and feeling ready for July. Orient Express (Part 1) - Summer Solstice

I just love the trend towards romantic Orientalism in fashion, and those of you who read my blog regularly may recall an earlier post (Left my Heart in Tokyo) in which I spoke of my fascination with geisha style. The intricate embroidery of this Eastern style bolero makes it feel extra special to put on. It's the kind of piece I don't get to wear very often, but when I do, it feels just right. The vivid blue shade was my inspiration for the rest of the outfit, and I continued the blue theme with a colourful lace top. I donned my trusty embellished combat trousers with small sequins which catch the light, and my 'love' handbag, which has a holographic surface with images which shift and change in different lights.

I was so pleased to capture this image from behind me, and get it right the first time. That hardly ever happens! It's hard to believe that today is the longest day of the year, as it seems so soon. The summer solstice always feels like an important milestone, and an appropriate time to review my future plans.

Do you have any plans for the longest day? I hope you're having a fab weekend so far, and wish you all a happy summer solstice!

Alley Cat

These images are from last Saturday, which was blissfully sunny. I decided I wanted to wear my embellished combat trousers which I've had for a very long time, but haven't worn as much in recent years. They have a hummingbird design on the lower part of the trouser leg with small iridescent sequins, which is surprisingly intricate. I don't see this level of detail too often on the high street, especially on trousers. However, as I wear trousers so often and feel most at ease in them, I wanted to show that trousers can also be worn as part of a glamorous look, and need not be strictly work wear. These trousers were bought many moons ago for a mere £10 from ASOS, and are one of the nicest pairs I've had. The baggier style also makes them very wearable. I teamed the trousers with this sweet leopard print pointy collar top, which was a sale purchase from Zara a couple of seasons ago, which I went to great lengths to track down on Oxford Street after it had sold out everywhere else. I'm sorry I can't provide current details of where to get them. I tend to mix and match older and newer pieces, and many of the things I wear are old favourites which I've taken good care of. But where possible I've given details below of similar styles I could find. The snakeskin ballet pumps are brand new, and can be bought currently from BHS. This was their very first outing, and they're delightfully fun shoes, but wonderfully comfy as well.
